Kohler's Dual-Flush Toilets Top Must-Have List for Latest Bathroom Remodeling

Kohler's dual-flush toilets are becoming very popular - at least in our bathroom renovations in the Boston area. Just recently we've had three clients request it in their bathroom remodeling projects.

In addition to exceptional water savings and contemporary styling, Kohler's Dual Flush has a user-friendly, two-button actuator allows you to choose either a 1.6- or .8-gallon flush option. The company says on average, this toilet utilizes 20 percent less water than models that only flush 1.6 gallons.

Kohler has three models in its Dual-Flush family. The least expensive is around $370 for the Persuade two-piece elongated toilet, model K-3654. The Saile elongated one-piece toilet K-3564 jumps in around $680. Lastly, the K-3588 Escale two-piece elongated toilet is about $1076. Want to see how they work? You can watch a video here on Kohler's site.

Over a one year period, Kohler says a typical family of four can save up to 5,000 gallons of water using the dual-flush feature. The toilet seats are made of thermo set plastic, a very durable and scratch resistant material, and features Quiet-Close functionality to prevent the lid from slamming.

If there's any challenge with these toilets it's the installation. The water supply for the toilet coming out of the wall must be in a specific location in relation for the toilet for the installation to work. If it's not in that location, the installation is difficult, if not impossible.

What we've found is that if you are going to replace an existing toilet with one of the dual-flush models, you need to be prepared to relocate the water supply. The typical water supply for most toilets won't won't for the dual-flush models. Relocating the water supply is a very easy thing to do if you're doing a complete bathroom remodel that involves taking down all the drywall. If you're taking down the walls, be prepared for a little wall patching and painting after the plumber moves the water line.

Lastly, be sure that your plumber has installed this type of toilet. The installation itself is more time-consuming than a typical toilet installation and if your plumber has not installed one before, it can create some problems.

The Escale Suite (shown above) takes its its inspiration from Japanese ceramic tableware design and has a wide range of coordinating products that enable homeowners to create a refined, modern feel that reflects their individual tastes and space circumstances. If you have a bathroom that works for this type of look, it's a very attractive item.
